HERBAL CHOCOLATE DELIGHTS!

Chocolate has been used since the days of the Aztec and Mayan people, where they believed that this sweet treat was a source of spiritual wisdom, energy and power. Who doesn’t need another excuse to eat chocolate? Join Kelley Robie, of Horsetail Herbs, in this decidant class just in time for Valentines Day. For our culinary delight we will be making Magic Truffles to tantilize your taste buds and a smooth and silky Chocolate Damiana Cordial to awaken your senses. We’ll discuss protecting yourself, healing if you are already sick & what to if you just can’t kick that lingering cough, sneeze, sore throat, or other symptoms. This is vital information to keep yourself, family & friends going strong. Together we’ll make a few preparations for you to take home.

BATH FIZZIES: A Mini Workshop

Effervescent little balls filled with scent & sound promoting cleanliness & fun is the quintessential description of a bath fizzy! Think of them as clean mud balls. They are easy to make & make wonderful gifts. This class is open to all ages – we especially encourage kids to attend. There is no charge for parents if just assisting.

BASIC TINCTURE PREPARATION

Tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts of herbs. They are usually made by a method in which a mixture of alcohol & water extract nearly all the chemical constituents of the herbs. Together we’ll explore both the art & science of this preparation utilizing alcohol, vinegar & glycerin. Everyone will create their own herbal tincture.

SILLY SOCK CREATURES!! A DIY Up-Cycling Extravaganza
6:00 - 8:00 Wednesday, Feb 29, 2012 with Melanie, Jeremy & Elena Brotz :: $14
Treat yourself to an evening of fun, creative self-expression. Come & make lovable sock monsters for yourself, your family or your friends. Learn to use colorful "orphaned" socks, vintage buttons, wool fiber, colorful yarns & other fabric scraps to create your own on-of-a-kind whimsical creatures. Strategic placement of aromatic herbs (in feet, tummy, etc) can enhance the sensory aesthetics of your creations. Make a soothing bedtime buddy with a lavendar belly; make one for your cat if you like - with some catnip inside, or make one for your dog to throw around & rip apart! Examples of completed silly sock creatures will be on-hand to stimulate your imagination, including several made by my children. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite old socks (holes okay!) & buttons if you wish. No sewing experience or skills necessary - this is an equal opportunity craft. Everyone will go home with at least one (and possibly several) fluffy friends.

The ART of TEA

Together we'll explore the fascinating world of tea by delving into the art of brewing, the fun of tea tasting & all those wonderful gadgets. We'll learn how different herbs can promote good health & wellbeing. Everyone will create their own special tea blends to take home.

INTERMEDIATE SOAP MAKING
6:00 - 9:00 Tuesday, Mar 13, 2012 with Kelley Robie :: $35
In this hands-on class, learn how to create and make traditional, healthy hand made soap! Join Kelley Robie, of Horsetail Herbs, using herbs, spices, essential oils, plant based oils and other natural ingredients to make a batch of beautiful aromatic soap. This class will focus on the process of super fatting, and making milk soaps. Each student will go home with a soap sample to cut and age, as well as a handout containing detailed instructions. Recipes and ideas for customizing your own soap will be given. Please bring a quart paperboard milk or soy container for your soap mold and an old towel to wrap your fresh soap in. Get ready to make some suds! Ages 10 years and older.

LIPS BALMS: A Mini Workshop
2:00 - 3:00 Sunday, Mar 18, 2012 with Laura Brown :: $5
Everybody uses & loses them – so learn to make your own. Join Laura in a one-hour class where together you’ll make all natural lip balms – both pots & tubes. Each person will take home their own creations. This class is open to all ages - kids are encouraged to attend (parents are free, if just assisting).

INTERNAL HERBAL REMEDIES

Our ancestor’s first medicine was most likely fresh herbs taken internally. We instinctively crave herbs when our body is unwell. Have you ever reached for a beer after a long stressful day or hot spicy cuisine when feeling cold? These are two examples of herbs as medicine! We’ll look at preparations such as syrups, capsules, pill balls, douches, suppositories, oxymels & slurries, as well as medicinal herbal candy.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION for BEGINNERS
6:30 - 7:30 Thursday, Mar 29, 2012 - Apr 12, 2012 with Meg Howard :: $35
Do you often find at the end of the day that your brain feels too full? Would you like to learn how to be more centered, present & aware? Join Meg Howard, M S., for an introduction to Vipassana (or insight meditation) that is experiential, will give you tools to live more fully in a stress-filled world & assist you in beginning or continuing your own practice at home. This class is appropriate for both those new to the practice of meditation as well as those who have meditated before but would like to refresh their practice. This is a three session class - held on 3 consecutive Thursdays. The first session might run until 8 pm. The price is for ALL 3 sessions.
