Purple Shutter Herbs is a woman-owned & operated Vermont business dedicated to providing the highest quality herbs and related herbal products available.

If we are to encourage others to learn to use herbs, we believe we bear a responsibility to make sure those herbs are sustainably and ethically grown. We work directly with growers and suppliers who have knowledge of and respect for the earth, and who understand the important role plants have in maintaining our health and well-being. Most of our herbs are organically grown or sustainably wildcrafted. Our herbal products are handmade at our Vermont store; we use only the finest raw butters, waxes, and our own infused oils. We always buy local ingredients first - including all our beeswax and Vermont honey. We never use artificial or synthetic fragrances or colours, never use petroleum-based products, and never use pesticide-sprayed plant materials. When you buy our products, you can trust that they're the best available.

Our Store

Since 1995, the Purple Shutter Herbs store has been a comprehensive herbal center serving the Burlington, Vermont region. Our first location was at 100 Main St., just two blocks from majestic Lake Champlain; in May 2006, we moved to our new location at 7 West Canal St., in the heart of downtown Winooski. It is not just a retail store, but a place where people can gather to delight in the beauty, wisdom, and practice of herbs. We offer herbal products, recipes, classes, and information about cosmetic and medicinal herbal practices. The business was named in honour of the owner's mother, Helen Brown, who encouraged everything except painting the shutters purple; we think she'd be proud!
